So this is the first song I ever wrote
With a pen and a pencil held between my toes
I figured if I changed the way I composed
I get more blog attention...
Like the brick that the building refused
Getting 22 hits on a featured interview
Having lame conversations with the same band dudes
Drinking local craft brew in the back of the venue
I'm pretty tired of being told when to smile
Your description wouldn't fit if not a synonym of narcissist
And my demeanor's never mistaken for confidence
I tire to reason with logic or even common sense
And end up sounding pretentious...
Like the brick that the building refused
failing to feel the same way that humans do
Manipulating thoughts, emotions in the rear view
But I'm too see through to even convince you
I'm pretty tired of being told when to smile

Blood Orange Fire

Blood orange fire,
Take the smoke higher
In a column of mystic rites to compete in the sky with the starlit night
Blood orange fire
Heal us with heat
For we've all been wounded by demons we cannot defeat individually
Blood orange fire
Ablaze with sage
The sweet smell of a spiritual rise our own high priest would recognize
Cauterize our souls, and brand our bones,
'Cause I know Heaven's clouds are cold
Red dead coals
We've been reduced to this
All potential with no proof that we'll make it
Red dead coals
Have replaced my soul
There's no heat where my heart should be just a fading flame
Slowly melting
So save our souls and bless our bones
'Cause I know Heaven's clouds are cold

Call out her name, you long to hear it
Hollowed silence reigns, as you feared
She flew amid the night, fore the pale dove cried at the morning
The cold flood of shame begins to seize you
Your chest's flickering flame bears the mark of a pain
Felt again and again as she looks for another
You're never around, ever echoing the sound of the light of your love.
Long lost to be found, she'll wet you boy, and watch you rust.
I need her ever around, it's true.
It's just the little honey's gonna lie to you
And then be lost to be found, chased around
Lying shadow of a man, ain't no light for you among her
Board center train, you hunt on feeling
A few stops away, your guts believing
Girl's settled there pawing the curls of her hair for the bother
Open doors of the train, frames only the same
Wet light from the lamp, 'neath she supposed to have sat
Rolls the train; rolls the thunder
You're never around, ever echoing the sound of the light of your love.
Long lost to be found, she'll wet you boy, and watch you rust.
I need her ever around, it's true.
It's just the little honey's gonna lie to you
And then be lost to be found, chased around
Lying shadow of a man, ain't no light for you among her
Call out her name
Answers only the rain
Lonesome snuff out your pain
Ailling heart raw and tame
Sits and waits, sits and shudders
(how I need her)
You're never around, ever echoing the sound of the light of your love.
Long lost to be found, she'll wet you boy, and watch you rust.
I need her ever around, it's true.
It's just the little honey's gonna lie to you
And then be lost to be found, chased around
Lying shadow of a man, ain't no light for you among her
